good point dan.

for people who want to reuse cups, cleaning is one of the main issues we found.

but some of the other challenges related to the convenience of carrying the cup around
or simply forgetting it.

I think they're looking at the problem wrong. All we need is a good reusable cup/mug with a rubber seal and a way to quickly wash them INSIDE the coffee shop/stand. You know those things bar tenders use to blast their glasses before filling them with beer? You just need one of those that blasts the cups with hot water and/or steam and a little insert-slot that does the same thing for your lid with a button to trigger the water/steam. Basically a rapid dishwasher.

thanks tom.

you are right, one of our objectives is simply to get people to think about the issue

however, a bigger part of the story is that we dont think this is JUST about the cup

a better solution will likely come from new materials, as well as new incentives,
communications, etc.

one of our favorite examples of the idea of thinking differently about recycling/reuse
is from seamlessweb who have a very different take on how this might work (hint:
change behavior versus change materials/physical design)

You must know about this already?
There are better versions of this design and I'm told there is a version of this that folds down to a very thin shape, making this version look bulky.

or

There are a lot of variations on this concept. It's small, lightweight, doesn't leak and if it had a lid, it would be a good replacement for the current problem product. I guess the competition gets people thinking about the problem though, which is a good thing.
